As an experienced, proactive Senior Network Design Engineer you will manage implementation activities for our global IP MPLS backbone and edge devices, ensuring all resources meet current and future customer needs in alignment with engineering guidelines. In this role you will generate detailed designs and collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage implementation projects to maintain optimal network capacity. This includes all activities from project review with Planning through equipment ordering & installation, test & turn-up, decommission and removal, financial management of project capital and expense spend, systems inventory, asset and regulatory management. Additionally, you will identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks, driving process simplification and operational efficiency.

You will work closely with both internal and external partners, contributing to problem-solving for common issues and continuously improving processes and procedures. Strong collaboration skills are essential, as you’ll be part of an international team operating across multiple time zones. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and adaptability are key to thriving in this dynamic environment. What you’ll do:

  • Receive detailed requirements for Technology, Topology and Capacity upgrades.
  • Translate into a low-level design and deployment plan.
  • Order, receive, and implement equipment and connectivity.
  • Manage customs, brokerage, and financials.
  • Prepare hand-off material for execution by operations.
  • Working with internal and external organizations, including telco’s, equipment and installation vendors, Network Operations, Field Services, Service Delivery, Planning and Capacity Management.
  • Work in a global, multicultural team spread over 24 time zones.
  • Take ownership of project deliverables, including capital and expense budgets.
  • Cover working time: EMEA with flexibility.

What you’ll need:

  • Hands on experience with network design and implementation within large service provider networks.
  • Solid understanding of layer 2 and layer 3 networks, including experience with routers and switches (Cisco IOS XR, JunOS).
  • Ability to broadly understand network routing protocols and translate engineering guidelines and high-level designs into effective low-level designs and project plans.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications, coding, and hands-on experience in automation tools and processes.
  • Strong presentation skills to effectively communicate technical concepts and recommendations.
  • Collaborative attitude and a proactive, can-do approach to problem-solving.

What you’ll bring:

  • Around 5+ years' experience, subject matter technical knowledge within the discipline within large, Telco/Enterprise/Service Provider environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of IP, MPLS, LAN and WAN technologies in a service provider environment.
  • Professional level Cisco or Juniper certification, or equivalent experience.
  • Education: Preferred Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Science, Electrical Engineering, or Math; or equivalent experience.

This position is hybrid, and you may be expected to go in the Portsmouth (U.K.) office 2-3 days per week.

Our Senior Network Design Engineer earns between  73,600.00 - 110,300.00 GBP gross / annual. Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on experience, expertise, and education/training.
