We are a dedicated SRE SWAT team committed to upholding reliability and resilience throughout AT&T’s enterprise application landscape. Our team collaborates closely with partners across infrastructure, application development, and incident management to proactively safeguard and enhance the stability of our critical systems.

What you’ll do:

As a core member of the SRE/SWAT squad, you’ll be on the front lines ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our critical platforms and services. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive under pressure, love troubleshooting complex issues, and are passionate about building robust, resilient systems. 

As a Principal System Engineer on AT&T’s elite SRE/SWAT squad, you’ll play a pivotal role in safeguarding the reliability, scalability, and performance of our most critical platforms and services. This is an ideal opportunity for seasoned engineers who excel under pressure, embrace solving intricate problems, and are dedicated to building resilient, world-class systems that empower millions of customers and drive our business forward.

  • Reliability Engineering:Design, implement, and maintain automated solutions to maximize system uptime and service reliability.
  • Incident Management:Lead rapid response efforts for major incidents, performing root cause analysis, coordinating cross-functional teams, and driving resolution to minimize impact.
  • Performance Optimization:Analyze system performance metrics, proactively identify bottlenecks, and implement scalable solutions to ensure optimal service levels.
  • Platform Engineering:Architect and evolve core infrastructure platforms, integrating best-in-class tools and technologies to advance automation, monitoring, and self-healing capabilities.
  • Technical Leadership:Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and operational excellence.
  • Collaboration:Work closely with development, operations, security, and product teams to design for reliability, implement best practices, and build shared ownership of system health.
  • Capacity Planning:Forecast growth, plan for scale, and ensure infrastructure meets future business demands.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing:Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, runbooks, and post-incident reviews to drive transparency and learning.

What you’ll need:

  • Swift Incident Response: Your ability to rapidly assess and triage high-impact incidents, collaborating with cross-functional teams to minimize and resolve service disruptions.
  • Analytical Problem Solving: Your expertise in conducting thorough root cause analyses, documenting findings, and implementing solutions to prevent future issues.
  • Reliability Mindset: Your proactive approach to monitoring, analyzing, and enhancing the reliability, availability, and performance of distributed systems.
  • Automation Expertise: Your skills in developing and refining automation tools for monitoring, alerting, and remediation, helping to eliminate manual, repetitive tasks.
  • Collaborative Spirit: Your talent for partnering with engineering, operations, and product teams to architect solutions that ensure reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Dedication to Support: Your commitment to participating in an on-call rotation, providing essential support during incidents and ensuring high service uptime.
  • Process Improvement Focus: Your drive to continuously enhance incident management processes, playbooks, and response strategies, boosting team effectiveness and system resilience.
  • Clear Communication: Your ability to create and maintain clear, actionable documentation for troubleshooting, escalation, and operational procedures.
  • At least 7 years of experience in technology role.
  • At least 5 years of extensive and proven experience in a hands-on technical role, including software development, software architecture, and system engineering within the past 7 years.

What you’ll bring:

  • Java development and tuning experience
  • Experience with public cloud infrastructure(Azure, AWS, GCP
  • Preferred BS Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Science, Electrical Engineering or Math.

Our Principal System Engineering, earns between $141,300-$211,900 USD Annual Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
