The Role 

The Lead Network Engineer is responsible for defining, maintaining, and governing network architecture documentation, engineering standards, and materials specifications. This role partners closely with Architecture, Engineering, Operations, and external vendors to ensure consistency, accuracy, compliance, and scalability across all network designs and implementations.

Work Location: US Remote  Hybrid in Dallas, TX

Responsibilities:

Network Documentation & Engineering Standards

· Develop, publish, and maintain authoritative network architecture documentation, standards, templates, and reference designs.

· Define engineering guidelines for network topologies, hardware, materials, labeling, and configuration documentation.

· Ensure documentation aligns with architectural intent, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

Materials and Specifications Governance

· Own and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), approved product lists (APLs), and material standards for network infrastructure.

· Collaborate with sourcing, vendors, and engineering teams to evaluate materials for compliance, lifecycle status, and architectural fit.

· Ensure consistent use of approved components across projects and partner organizations.

Architecture & Engineering Alignment

· Partner with the Architecture team to translate high-level designs into standardized, consumable engineering artifacts.

· Review project designs for compliance with published standards and documentation requirements.

· Serve as a subject matter expert on documentation quality, consistency, and architectural adherence.

Technology & Standards Evaluation

· Evaluate emerging technologies and vendor solutions from a standardization and documentation perspective.

· Assess impacts to existing standards, materials, and architectural documentation before adoption.

Governance & Quality Management

· Establish review and approval processes for network documentation and standards updates.

· Track lifecycle changes, deprecations, and version control for all published standards and materials.

· Audit network projects and deployments for documentation completeness and standards compliance.

Standards Roadmap & Planning

· Develop and maintain a roadmap for documentation improvements, standards evolution, and materials updates.

· Perform impact analyses and cost/benefit assessments related to standards changes and material transitions.

· Coordinate standards rollout and adoption across internal teams and partner organizations.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in Engineering, Information Systems, or related field desired.

• Equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Experience

Required Experience

· 4+ years in network engineering, architecture, or infrastructure-focused roles.

· Proven experience developing and governing network architecture documentation, standards, and reference designs.

· Direct ownership of engineering standards, including hardware, materials, and network topologies.

· Experience managing BOMs, approved product lists, and material specifications.

· Strong collaboration with Architecture, Engineering, Operations, and vendors to ensure standards compliance.

Preferred Experience

· Experience translating architectural designs into standardized engineering artifacts.

· Exposure to technology and vendor evaluation and lifecycle impact assessments.

· Background establishing or scaling documentation and standards governance in large environments.

· Experience with standards alignment, rollout, and cross-team adoption.

Compensation

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

Background Screening
